FROM THE CHAIRS
We would like to thank all our sponsors and donors, the GlavUpDK Cultural Center, the IWC Steering Committee, the Charities Board, our project coordinators, and all volunteers for their support throughout the club year 2008/2009.
Their work is of immense importance, as we are all committed to finding new ways to continue to combat poverty and unfairness in this world. The IWC Charities Group is governed and managed with a clear organizational structure: 14 board members lead coordinators of respective groups, who control the work of over 100 volunteers. Members of the IWC Charities Board are devoted volunteers who understand their responsibilities. They give their time and effort to direct the funds raised, as effectively and efficiently as possible, to the beneficiary groups. Our main fundraising events are the Winter Bazaar (December) and the Embassy Dinner and Ball (February). All funds raised at these events are redistributed directly to the project recipients without any administrative costs. The IWC Charities Group has almost three decades of history in Russia, and every year more and more people come to us for help. With this in mind, we are developing another fundraising event - The StarBall (April) - to benefit handicapped children. All three events will enable us to grow, and to raise awareness of our work in 2008/2009
With around 130 volunteers (up from 80 in previous year) working with different projects, the Charities Group continues each year to make an impact in the community in which we live. The following summaries are a small sampling of some of the activities completed this past year within each project area.
