The International Women’s Club Charities Group is the community service arm of the IWC and an integral part of it. Drawing on our diverse resources, broad reach and experience, we endeavor to provide both emergency care and long-term support for children in need and people under the poverty level.
Mission Statement
Our group is run by members from many different countries who want to work together to reach out to people in this country and make a difference. Our purpose is to ensure that IWC Charities are able to help those who need it. As IWC Charities are run by volunteers, there are no administrative costs involved, so all donations will go directly to those in need.
As a women’s organization we have agreed to focus our primary attention on children. We have based this decision on the fact that children represent a society’s future, thus providing an opportunity to invest for the longer term and that in many cases intervention can be life-changing – for the child, for the family and beyond.
Our contribution can be in the shape of funding and/or resources (volunteers, donations in kind) and will normally be approved where institutional (national or local government) support does not exist or is inadequate. Our secondary objective is to support the elderly and the destitute.
Areas of activity
Government funding cannot provide everything that is needed – even to orphanages, pensioners, and hospitals – so our role is VITAL in getting urgently needed help which both saves and transforms lives.
Our activities cover:
Children in Care
- preparing children and young people for an independent life in the future by providing them with food, clothing, school materials and additional training.
Children in Families
- supporting days care centers for socially deprived children by providing food support and educational and social activities, such as computer and English lessons, arts and crafts lessons and independent life-skill projects with an emphasis on preparing children for life out of the institution;
- providing lunches and food bags for very poor foreign students and helping needy families and individuals on a case-by-case basis.
- helping women and girls released from detention to retrain and get back into society.
Children in Medical Need
- funding specialized medical supplies, equipment and therapies for child burns and accident victims.
Elderly and Destitute
- nourishing the homeless, pensioners, needy families and the unemployed in various soup kitchens in and around Moscow;
- caring for street people by providing funds for food, clothing and toiletries and supporting a walk-in medical clinic.
- distributing reusable clothing, furniture, household items, games and toys to projects that need them.
The generosity of expats in the Moscow area, local Russian residents, and at times, corporations, has enabled us to give out various items to most projects funded by IWC. The Donations Office also helps NGOs in kind which do not receive funding from IWC. With the support of GlavUpDK, we maintain our Donations Office near Belorusskaya metro station, where all recipients who are granted access to the DO can come and select the items they need. With the help of dedicated volunteers and donors, we have managed to keep our shelves stocked and find items to meet the needs of some of the poor in Moscow and the surrounding area.
If you would like to be a part of the Charities Group, whether it would be in the role of project coordinators who visit the Charities we support or by helping us in the “back office” with the preparation for our board decisions and the processes outlined in our Operational Manual you are very welcome to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
